This week, as we mark the International Day of Charity, we’re reminded that tzedakah is more than giving. It’s how we live our shared values, through tikkun olam (repairing the world), compassion, and the strength of showing up for one another. It brings to mind the teachings of Pirkei Avot on how "The world stands on three things: Torah, service, and acts of loving-kindness." And when we show up together, something powerful happens. That’s the Power of Together

2025 Federation Annual Campaign Launch: A Call to Action

I’m proud to share that the 2025 Federation Annual Campaign has officially launched. This isn’t just a fundraising effort—it’s personal. Every gift carries a story: a memory, a value, a connection to community. Whether you’ve received support, participated in a program, or simply want to ensure Jewish life continues to thrive, your gift matters.

Your tzedakah is personal. But when we give together, our impact is transformational.

This year, we’re being called to do more, and we’re answering that call with a deeper commitment to our community’s well-being, resilience, and growth.

Across the region, more people are turning to our partner agencies for support, often relying on multiple programs just to get by. With their own costs rising, our partners are doing more with less and still - they rise to the challenge - providing food and shelter, mental health support, Jewish education, advocacy, connection to Jewish life and more.

And they're not doing it alone.

Jewish Federation brings partners together to strengthen, coordinate, and plan as one. Together, we build something greater than the sum of its parts. Because when we work as one, we go further—for everyone.

What Your Gift Supports

Your generosity doesn’t just fund programs, it changes lives. It means food on the table for a family struggling with rising costs. It means safety and security in the face of growing antisemitism. It means meaningful Jewish experiences—from education to cultural events to mentorship—for people of all ages.

It also strengthens our connection to Israel, bringing its spirit into homes and hearts across BC, and investing in long-term resilience in our partnership region in the Upper Galilee.

Join us in building a stronger, more connected, vibrant Jewish community—l’dor v’dor, from generation to generation. Make your gift today and be part of something bigger.

Acknowledging Our Community Builders

None of this would be possible without the people who make our community thrive. To our volunteers, donors, partner agencies, and staff: thank you. Your dedication and compassion are the heartbeat of our work. You remind us that Jewish life is strongest when it’s rooted in relationship.

Opening Night is Thursday, September 11: Don’t Miss It

Annual General Meeting: A Moment to Reflect
As we begin this season of connection and celebration with Opening Night, we’re also looking forward to another meaningful gathering: our 2025 Annual General Meeting on Thursday, September 18.

The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with an inspiring award presentation and social gathering, an opportunity to celebrate outstanding community members and courageous allies who have stood with us during challenging times. We’re excited to announce the names of these deserving awardees in next week’s Shabbat message.

We hope you’ll join us to show your appreciation for these remarkable individuals and be part of this special celebration. Later in the evening, at 8:15 p.m., we’ll transition to the formal business of the AGM, including key updates and important resolutions. You’re warmly welcome to attend either or both portions of the evening. Register here
Looking Ahead...

Before I sign off, I want to personally invite you to a timely and important event: the screening of October 8—a powerful documentary that explores the explosion of antisemitism on college campuses, across social media, and in the streets of America. It’s a film that speaks to the urgent challenges we face today.

We understand the impact this has had on our youth, but many of our non-Jewish friends don’t. That’s why we’re hosting a screening of the documentary film on October 8th, which details the rise in anti-Jewish hate since the Hamas attacks in 2023. Most importantly, we’re asking you to attend with one or more friends or colleagues from outside of our community.

Following the screening, we’ll hold a brief panel discussion with local Jewish students and professionals who are on the frontlines of this crisis. There’s a vital role for all of us. And we need our friends and allies now more than ever. This upcoming event is an opportunity to increase awareness, start conversations, and build bridges.
Purchase the tickets here.

Shabbat shalom,
