Bringing Israel to British Columbia

From shared moments and living bridges to practical support, we help make Israel a meaningful part of Jewish life across BC.

In British Columbia, Israel is part of Jewish life in meaningful ways; through culture, personal relationships and shared moments of remembrance and celebration.

Across the province, we help ensure Israel is not distant or abstract but present, accessible, and woven into the fabric of community life.

Marking Israel’s National Days Remembrance and Celebration

Each year, communities across British Columbia come together to mark Israel’s national days.

Yom HaZikaron is Israel’s official day of remembrance, honouring Israeli soldiers who lost their lives in defense of the State of Israel and civilians killed in acts of terror. Each year, our community comes together for a moving memorial that reflects shared loss, collective memory, and our deep ties to Israel. By naming those we have lost personally, we ensure that their memory remains a living part of our shared story.

As Yom Ha’atzmaut begins, Israel shifts from remembrance to celebration. Our community marks this transition with our annual signature Yom Ha’atzmaut event featuring Israeli music, culture, and community spirit, bringing people together in a joyful and meaningful recognition of Israel’s independence.

Israel Through People
Shinshinim in BC

One of the most immediate and personal connections to Israel in BC is through Shinshinim, young Israeli emissaries who spend a year living and volunteering in our communities.

By engaging with youth in schools, camps, and community programs, Shinshinim share everyday Israeli life while building genuine relationships. Their presence helps young people connect to Israel through lived experience and brings Israeli voices into communities across the province.

Israel Through Relationships
Gesher Chai

Through Gesher Chai (Living Bridge), schools and communities in British Columbia are paired with  their counterparts in Israel’s Galilee Panhandle.

This initiative builds long-term partnerships through exchanges between students, educators, and peers, creating opportunities for shared experiences and learning that foster lasting relationships. The result is more than connection, it is a lasting sense of belonging, mutual responsibility, and one shared Jewish story.
