Advocacy & Safety

Protecting our community through partnership.

Advocacy & Public Policy

Advocacy is a core part of how we protect and strengthen Jewish life in British Columbia and Canada. We work in close partnership with the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), the advocacy agent of Jewish Federations across Canada, to ensure the needs and concerns of our community are brought forward at every level of government.

Through this collaboration, community priorities are brought forward to decision-makers, addressed through coordinated public policy efforts, and relationships with government and public institutions are strengthened, ensuring our community’s voice is clearly represented in the conversations and decisions that shape our safety and future.

Advocacy efforts are driven by community engagement. In the past year alone, more than 1.2 million messages were sent by advocates to elected officials across Canada, helping bring attention to key issues, from community safety to rising antisemitism, and reinforcing the collective voice of communities across the country.

These efforts contribute to meaningful outcomes, including advancing responses to antisemitism, strengthening protections through legislation addressing online hate, and ensuring Jewish community perspectives are reflected in national and regional policy discussions.

Security & Preparedness

Community safety is strengthened through collaboration, bringing together community organizations, volunteers, subject-matter experts, and public partners to support a proactive and coordinated approach to security.

This collective effort helps strengthen preparedness across institutions and events, build awareness at all levels of the community, and ensure clear coordination in responding to evolving risks, creating safer, more resilient environments for Jewish life.

This work is sustained through significant community investment. Jewish Federation dedicates approximately $1.5 million annually to community security. Through local and global partnerships, this work continues to evolve, connecting our community to best practices, shared expertise, and proven models that enhance readiness, strengthen response, and support recovery in times of crisis.

Community Security

Through coordinated efforts with community partners, volunteers, and law enforcement, safety across our community is strengthened, helping create secure spaces, increase awareness, and support a consistent, community-wide approach to preparedness and response.

Cybersecurity & Information Protection

Through the Cybersecurity and Information Protection Subcommittee (SCsIP), community experts collaborate to identify risks, share best practices, and support organizations in protecting critical systems and data, helping strengthen resilience across our shared digital environment.

Emergency Preparedness

Through our partnership with JReady, a global resilience platform led by the Jewish Agency for Israel, our community is connected to a broader network working to strengthen preparedness and response in times of crisis, helping equip organizations and leaders with tools, training, and shared expertise that support coordinated responses and enable communities to adapt and recover with greater resilience.

Stand with us to protect and strengthen our community

Together, these efforts help ensure our community is protected, represented, and equipped to respond to evolving challenges.
